Winter’s Coming — Is Your Roof Ready?

Alright, let’s be honest — we all know what winter’s like around here. One minute it’s just a bit nippy, next thing you know, it’s chucking it down and the wind’s trying to take your bins on a tour of the neighbourhood.

At PK Roofing & Building, we’ve been up on more roofs than we can count, and we know how important it is to get your home sorted before the weather turns. So here’s a few dead simple tips to help you get your roof ready for winter — no faff, just straight-up advice.

1. Have a Nosey at Your Roof

You don’t need to be a roofer to spot when something’s not right. Just have a quick look — from the ground, mind — and see if anything looks off:

Tiles missing or cracked?
Moss growing like it’s got a life of its own?
Bits looking a bit wonky or sagging?

2. Gutters Full of Muck?

Leaves, twigs, and all sorts end up in your gutters this time of year. If they’re blocked, rainwater can overflow and cause damp patches or even damage your roof and walls.

Best get them cleared out before the heavens open. Don’t fancy climbing up a ladder? No worries — we’ll sort it for you. We do gutter cleaning and repairs, so you can stay warm and dry indoors.

3. Spotting Leaks Before They Get Worse

Keep an eye out inside your house too. If you see:

Damp patches on the ceiling
Peeling wallpaper
A bit of a pong in the loft

…it might be your roof trying to tell you something. We’re on hand for emergency repairs, even if it’s blowing a gale.

4. Trim Back Those Trees

Got trees near your house? Make sure the branches aren’t hanging over your roof. One good gust and they could cause a right mess — cracked tiles, blocked gutters, or worse.

5. Keep the Heat In

A well-insulated roof means your house stays toasty and your heating bill doesn’t go through the roof (pun intended). Plus, it helps stop damp and mould in your loft.
